Covid-19 Learning Pods & Other Supplemental Learning

Interested in providing your student with dynamic, individualized supplemental learning during the upcoming semester of distance learning? Please see below for info on Learning Pods (aka Udelpods), or contact me directly to design a plan specific to your student’s needs.

Udelpods are a fun, low-risk, and affordable way to ensure that quality group learning goes uninterrupted and kids can still enjoy in-person interaction with one another (if they choose). A sample pod looks something like this:

  • Pick one or a handful of your classmates who are taking (mostly) the same courses as you.
  • Agree to uphold certain standards/social distancing etiquette throughout a defined period of time (i.e., you will all wear masks, you will not interact with anyone else outside your pod/your immediate families, for the whole semester)
  • Meet every Monday-Friday (or just certain days of the week) at one student’s home and attend your distance classes together. Students may rotate homes on a week by week basis or month by month basis to encourage a much needed change of scenery.
    • For those who would prefer to stay physically distant, you can still be part of the pod by having lunch and after-school tutoring sessions virtually with your group.
  • Eat lunch together, play outside, etc. according to your pre-established social distancing protocol (or have lunch “together” on Zoom)
  • After school: meet online with Libby for office hours during which you can receive help on any topic, or to discuss a specific subject. This can happen every other week or as often as every day, depending on the needs of the learning pod.

Benefits of Organizing a Udelpod

  • Bring a sense of structure, normalcy, and dynamism to long days on Zoom; mitigate Zoom fatigue
  • Restore the crucial components of discussion-based learning that are so often lost in the virtual setting
  • Getting to interact with kids your age in a safe way!
  • Group tutoring means a reduced price per person as compared to one-on-one tutoring
  • Regular access to Libby, who is an expert in English, Spanish, and History up to 12th grade and Math up to Precalc, and in SAT/ACT prep and college admissions essays.
